SAE4340 & SAE8620 Forged Steel Roller Shaft High-Strength Backup Roller & Rotor Shaft
SAE 4340 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy steel known for exceptional strength, toughness, and fatigue resistance. After quenching and tempering, hardness reaches HRC 30–40, making it suitable for high-stress environments such as metallurgical mill support rollers and heavy rotor shafts.
SAE 8620 is a low-carbon Ni-Cr-Mo alloy steel ideal for carburizing. After surface carburizing and hardening, the core remains tough while the surface achieves HRC 58–62 for superior wear resistance. It is commonly used for gears and medium-sized rolling mill shafts.
Both materials benefit from forging, which refines grain structure and improves mechanical performance. SAE 4340 is ideal for fully quenched high-load parts, whereas SAE 8620 is preferred for components requiring a tough core and hardened surface. Widely used in metallurgy, mining, and mechanical manufacturing.
