AISI 4140 (1.7225 / 42CrMo4) forged steel shafts and rolls are high-performance alloy components widely used in industrial environments. This medium-carbon Cr-Mo alloy delivers excellent strength, toughness, wear resistance, and fatigue resistance, with good hardenability. Forging enhances mechanical performance, producing durable solid shafts for heavy machinery, automotive systems, and industrial equipment. With a typical composition of 0.38–0.43% C, 0.75–1.0% Cr, and 0.15–0.25% Mo, it can be quenched and tempered to exceed 1000 MPa tensile strength. Common applications include gears, axles, drill collars, and metalworking rolls. Its machinability, weldability (pre/post-heating), and impact resistance make it ideal for harsh working conditions.
